We are responsible for regulating a sector that plays a fundamental role in the life of every person in the European Union, without which the modern economy could not function. We cover everything from children’s savings accounts to pensions, from bank direct debits to credit cards, from loans to investments. The proper functioning of financial markets and how it significantly impacts us all.
We have 3 main objectives for which we provide protection and stability. IFOMA is also responsible for coordinating measures taken by securities supervisors or for adopting emergency measures when a crisis situation arises.
We ensure that the needs of financial consumers are met and reinforce their responsible rights as investors.
We promote the integrity, efficiency, and proper functioning of financial markets, as well as a robust market infrastructure.
We consolidate the financial system to withstand disruptions, address financial imbalances, and drive economic growth.
It operates in 4 simple steps. Within our regulatory policies, everything must be executed from an integrity perspective.
Companies and individuals must be authorized or registered by us to carry out certain activities.
Before granting authorization, companies must demonstrate that they meet a series of requirements.
Then, we supervise these companies to ensure they continue to comply with our rules once they have been authorized.
If companies and individuals fail to meet these standards, we have a variety of enforcement powers that we can use.
We improve investor protection and promote stable and orderly financial markets.
